Tan Ce

Double Star bezeichnet eine chinesische Mission mit Beteiligung der ESA zur Erforschung des irdischen Magnetfelds und seiner Wechselwirkung mit dem Sonnenwind. Der chinesische Name der Satelliten lautet Tan Ce.

Die Mission besteht aus zwei Satelliten. TC-1 (Tan Ce 1) wurde am 29. Dezember 2003 vom Weltraumbahnhof Xichang in ein elliptisches Orbit (Perigäum 550 km, Apogäum 66970 km über der Erdoberfläche) mit einer Inklination von 28,5° gebracht, TC-2 wurde am 25. Juli 2004 vom Weltraumbahnhof Taiyuan in ein polares elliptisches Orbit (Perigäum 700 km, Apogäum 39000 km) gebracht. Beide Satelliten wurden mit einer Rakete des Typs Langer Marsch 2C gestartet. Am 14. Oktober 2007 wurde TC-1 nach erreichen seiner vorgesehenen Lebensdauer abgeschaltet und ist danach in der Erdatmosphäre verglüht.

Die Double Star - Satelliten haben 8 chinesische Instrumente und 8 Instrumente der ESA an Bord, davon sind 7 Duplikate von Instrumenten der CLUSTER-Satelliten. Mit ihrer Hilfe gelang der Nachweis von superheißen Gasblasen an der Schockfront zwischen Erdmagnetfeld und Sonnenwind, sowie deren Entstehung, Entwicklung und Verschwinden.
