Das Wood County[1] ist ein County im Bundesstaat Wisconsin der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Bei der Volkszählung im Jahr 2010 hatte das County 74.749 Einwohner und eine Bevölkerungsdichte von 36,4 Einwohnern pro Quadratkilometer. Der Verwaltungssitz (County Seat) ist Wisconsin Rapids.

Das County liegt etwa auf dem geographischen Zentrum von Wisconsin und hat eine Fläche von 2096 Quadratkilometern, wovon 43 Quadratkilometer Wasserfläche sind. Es grenzt an folgende Countys:

Geschichte

Wood County wurde 1856 aus Teilen des Portage County gebildet. Benannt wurde es nach Joseph Wood, einem US-amerikanischen Richter und Politiker.

Nach der Volkszählung im Jahr 2000 lebten im Wood County 75.555 Menschen in 30.135 Haushalten. 20.491 Familien lebten im County. Die Bevölkerungsdichte betrug 37 Personen pro Quadratkilometer. Ethnisch betrachtet setzte sich die Bevölkerung zusammen aus 96,43 Prozent Weißen, 0,27 Prozent Afroamerikanern, 0,70 Prozent amerikanischen Ureinwohnern, 1,61 Prozent Asiaten, 0,01 Prozent Bewohnern aus dem pazifischen Inselraum und 0,30 Prozent aus anderen ethnischen Gruppen; 0,69 Prozent stammten von zwei oder mehr Ethnien ab. 0,94 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren spanischer oder lateinamerikanischer Abstammung, die verschiedenen der genannten Gruppen angehörten.

Von den 30.135 Haushalten hatten 32,2 Prozent Kinder unter 18 Jahren, die mit ihnen zusammen lebten. 56,7 Prozent davon waren verheiratete, zusammenlebende Paare, 8,0 Prozent waren allein erziehende Mütter. 32,0 Prozent waren keine Familien. 27,2 Prozent waren Singlehaushalte und in 11,4 Prozent lebten Menschen mit 65 Jahren oder älter. Die durchschnittliche Haushaltsgröße lag bei 2,47 und die durchschnittliche Familiengröße bei 3,01 Personen.

25,7 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren unter 18 Jahre alt, 7,7 Prozent zwischen 18 und 24, 28,4 Prozent zwischen 25 und 44, 22,9 Prozent zwischen 45 und 64, und 15,3 Prozent waren 65 Jahre oder älter. Das Durchschnittsalter betrug 38 Jahre. Auf 100 weibliche kamen statistisch 96,1 männliche Personen.[4]
