Green County[2] ist ein County im Bundesstaat Wisconsin der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Bei der Volkszählung im Jahr 2010 hatte das County 36.842 Einwohner und eine Bevölkerungsdichte von 24,4 Einwohnern pro Quadratkilometer. Der Verwaltungssitz (County Seat) ist Monroe.

Das County liegt im äußersten Süden von Wisconsin, grenzt an Illinois und hat eine Fläche von 1514 Quadratkilometern, wovon 2 Quadratkilometer Wasserfläche sind. Es grenzt an folgende Countys:

Geschichte

Green County wurde 1836 als Original-County aus Teilen des Wisconsin-Territoriums gebildet. Benannt wurde es nach Nathanael Greene, einem General im Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieg.

Historische Objekte

In Monroe steht das historische Green County Courthouse. Das Gebäude steht am Courthouse Square und wurde am 21. März 1978 vom National Register of Historic Places als historisches Denkmal aufgenommen.

Nach der Volkszählung im Jahr 2000 lebten im Green County 33.647 Menschen in 13.212 Haushalten. 9.208 Familien lebten im County. Die Bevölkerungsdichte betrug 22 Personen pro Quadratkilometer. Ethnisch betrachtet setzte sich die Bevölkerung zusammen aus 98,14 Prozent Weißen, 0,26 Prozent Afroamerikanern, 0,21 Prozent amerikanischen Ureinwohnern, 0,29 Prozent Asiaten, 0,36 Prozent aus anderen ethnischen Gruppen; 0,75 Prozent stammten von zwei oder mehr Ethnien ab. 0,97 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren spanischer oder lateinamerikanischer Abstammung, die verschiedenen der genannten Gruppen angehörten.

Von den 13.212 Haushalten hatten 33,7 Prozent Kinder unter 18 Jahren, die mit ihnen zusammen lebten. 58,3 Prozent davon waren verheiratete, zusammenlebende Paare, 7,5 Prozent waren allein erziehende Mütter. 30,3 Prozent waren keine Familien. 25,0 Prozent waren Singlehaushalte und in 11,2 Prozent lebten Menschen mit 65 Jahren oder älter. Die durchschnittliche Haushaltsgröße betrug 2,51 und die durchschnittliche Familiengröße lag bei 3,01 Personen.

26,5 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren unter 18 Jahre alt, 6,7 Prozent zwischen 18 und 24, 29,2 Prozent zwischen 25 und 44, 22,9 Prozent zwischen 45 und 64, und 14,7 Prozent waren 65 Jahre oder älter. Das Durchschnittsalter betrug 38 Jahre. Auf 100 weibliche kamen statistisch 96,9 männliche Personen. [5]
