Lipton International Players Championships

Das Miami Masters, aktuell nach dem Sponsor auch Sony Ericsson Open, ist ein Tennisturnier, das im Frühjahr in Key Biscayne in der Nähe von Miami ausgetragen wird. Das Turnier wurde ursprünglich konzipiert, um als fünftes Grand-Slam-Turnier eingestuft zu werden. Diese Ambitionen hat man heute nicht mehr. 2000 wurde es als eines der ehemaligen Super-9-Turniere in die dritthöchste Kategorie der Turniere der Männer-Tournee aufgenommen (nach den Grand-Slam-Turnieren und dem Tennis Masters Cup) und ist jetzt das zweite von neun Turnieren der Masters Series. Als einziges Masters-Turnier neben Indian Wells hat das Miami Masters ein 96er-Hauptfeld.

Der Name des Turniers lautete offiziell von 1985-1999 Lipton International Players Championships, danach nach den jeweiligen Sponsoren 2000 und 2001 Ericsson Open, 2002-2006 NASDAQ-100 Open und schließlich seit 2007 Sony Ericsson Open.
