Kilifi District ist ein Distrikt in der Coast Province in Kenia. Die Hauptstadt des Distrikts ist Kilifi. Im Kilifi District leben etwa 545.000 Menschen auf 4779 km².[1][2]

Gliederung

Der Kilifi District liegt nördlich/nordöstlich von Mombasa und ist in sieben Divisionen und drei Wahlkreise unterteilt. Die Wahlkreise sind Bahari, Ganze und Kaloleni.

Ruinenstätten

Im Distrikt, südlich der Stadt Kilifi, liegt die Ruinenstätte Mnarani, bestehend aus den Überresten einer Swahili-Siedlung aus dem 14. Jahrhundert. Sichtbar sind die Reste der Stadtmauer, eine gut erhaltene große Moschee, eine kleinere Moschee aus dem 16. Jahrhundert und verschiedene Steingräber, darunter ein großes Säulengrab.[3]

Außerdem befindet sich im District die Ruinenstadt Jumba la Mtwana, eine Swahili-Siedlung aus dem 14. Jahrhundert.
